Carol's News - ( Spring 2008 )

HI, NOW IT IS MY TURN TO TELL YOU ABOUT DEICHMAN WALKER CHEVY DEALERSHIP. WE MET CHARLIE DEICHMAN AND HIS LOVELY WIFE ON THE EASTON AREA CORVETTE CLUB'S TRIP TO NIAGARA FALLS. A BUNCH OF US WENT OUT TO EAT ONE NIGHT AT THE SKYLON TOWER AND WE HAD DINER TOGETHER. WE ALSO TOURED THE WINE COUNTRY ACROSS THE BORDER IN CANADA.

WE PURCHASED OUR 2000 VETTE AT DEICHMAN WALKER ON MONDAY, MAY 19,2003. EVERYONE THERE WENT OUT OF HIS OR HER WAY TO HELP US AND PUT US IN THAT CAR.

IT IS NOW 2008 AND THE LAST DAY OF THE MONTH TO GET OUR VETTE INSPECTED. LEW HAS BEEN PUTTING IT OFF AND TIME HAS FLOWN BY. LEW SAID THIS MORNING THAT WE (NOTICE HE SAID “WE”) DIDN’T GET THE VETTE INSPECTED SO I TOLD HIM TO CALL AND I WOULD RUN IT DOWN IF THEY COULD FIT US IN. LEW CALLED BILL IN SERVICE AND BILL SAID TO RUN IT DOWN. AS I WAS GETTING READY TO LEAVE LEW HOLLERED TO ME THAT I SHOULD LOOK AT NEW CARS.  IT SEEMS MY OLD 99 HAS A MILLION MILES ON IT AND I SHOULD REPLACE IT BUT I HATE BUYING CARS OR ANYTHING FOR THAT MATTER. I ARRIVED AT DEICHMAN WALKER CHEVY AND BILL HAD THE VETTE RUN RIGHT IN.

I STARTED LOOKING AT THE NEW COBALTS. I KNEW I WANTED A SPORTY, RED TWO DOOR COUPE WITH A SUNROOF AND STICK SHIFT. IT WAS EARLY MORNING AND CHARLIE DEICHMAN THE OWNER PULLED IN AND HE SPOTTED ME LOOKING AND CAME OVER TO TALK. WE TALKED AS I WAS LOOKING AND CHARLIE SAID “LET ME GET YOU A PLATE AND YOU CAN TAKE IT FOR A RIDE” SO I DID, ALL BY MYSELF WITH NO SALES PERSON TRYING TO SELL ME THE CAR. WHAT A FUN CAR TO DRIVE AND I WENT FOR A GREAT LONG RIDE. I GOT BACK AND TALKED TO KAREN THE GENERAL MANAGER AND SHE FILLED ME IN ON PRICE, REBATES THAT WERE AVAILABLE AND ALL THE BELLS AND WHISTLES ABOUT THE CAR. I TOLD HER THANKS AND THAT GAVE ME SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT.

WHEN I GOT HOME I TOLD LEW WHAT HAD HAPPENED AND HE MADE THE DECISION FOR ME. HE PICKED UP THE PHONE AND CALLED KAREN AND SAID, “LET’S DO IT” AND TO GIVE US A CALL WHEN THE PAPER WORK WAS DONE AND WE WOULD RUN DOWN AND PICK IT UP. WELL, TWO HOURS LATER LEW CALLED TO SEE WHAT WAS UP AND KAREN SAID THE CAR WAS ON ITS WAY AND THAT THEY WERE DELIVERING IT TO SAVE US THE TRIP. WHILE THEY WERE TALKING, I LOOKED OUT THE WINDOW AND SAW THE CAR PULLING IN OUR DRIVEWAY.  FRANK, ONE OF CHARLIE’S GREAT SALES PEOPLE, CAME IN AND WENT OVER THE PAPER WORK WITH US AND TALKED ABOUT SOME OF THE FEATURES OF THE CAR, THEN FRANK AND I WENT OUT TO THE CAR AND WE SPENT A LOT OF TIME GOING OVER THINGS INSIDE AND OUT THAT I SHOULD KNOW.

SO I GOT MY RED, SPORTY, TWO DOOR COUPE, SUN ROOF CAR IN LESS THAN A DAY AND DELIVERED TOO, BUT NO STICK SHIFT. THIS ONE HAS AUTOMATIC. AS AN OLD FARM GAL I LEARNED TO DRIVE STICK SHIFT EQUIPMENT AND NEVER HAD AN AUTOMATIC TRANMISSION CAR. LEW SAID I SHOULD BE CAREFUL NOT TO STOMP OUT THE FLOOR BOARDS TRYING TO PUT IN THE CLUTCH AND NOT TO SHIFT FROM “D” TO “P” AND THINK IT IS FIRST TO SECOND, BUT I AM SURE THAT WON’T HAPPEN.

IT IS WONDERFUL HOW CHARLIE, KAREN, BILL, FRANK AND ALL OF CHARLIE’S GANG AT DEICHMAN-WALKER HELP TO PUT FOLKS IN A CAR. THEY ARE A GREAT BUNCH OF PEOPLE. IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A CAR, STOP IN AND TELL THEM LEW AND CAROL SENT YOU. WE ARE SURE YOU’LL LIKE “A DEICHMAN WALKER RIDE ".

Orange County Chopper and Brotherhood Winery Run

Date:    April 30, 2006 Sunday

Wine_and_Choppers2005_Anim.gifThe group had a good trip to the Brotherhood Winery and Orange County Choppers.  The weather cooperated, we could not have asked for a better day.  It was a beautiful ride.

Our only disappointment was the cafe' at the winery was not opened.  It was our second stop and everyone was ready to chow down.  We had to wait until everyone completed the tour of the winery before we could find a place to eat.  We decided to stop at the Chatterbox.  They were very accommodating and the wait for being seated was very short.

We did have 13 Corvettes, 1 BMW, 1 350Z, 1 Harley and 1 Bulle.

At OC the inventory was changed yet again and we were able to see new bikes that we did not see previously.  It seemed that the prices on the merchandise was lowered.  The magic price seemed to be 9.99.

WE HAVE A LOCAL HIGH SCHOOL KID THAT REFUSES TO STAND IN THE MORNING DURING THE PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE.   HE HAS MADE THE PAPERS AND THE LOCAL T V NEWS.  HE HAS BACKING BECAUSE HE SAYS HE IS DOING IT BECAUSE HE DOESN'T LIKE WHAT OUR COUNTRY IS DOING IN IRAQ. I HAD ENOUGH OF IT TODAY (Friday 2/3/06 )  AND WROTE THIS LETTER TO THE EDITOR OF OUR LOCAL PAPER. THEY LIKED IT AND I GOT A CALL TONIGHT AND WAS TOLD THAT IT WOULD BE IN TOMORROW'S ISSUE. . . HERE IS WHAT I WROTE...LEW

SEE SAM SIT

I’ll bet Sam Smith doesn’t even know the meaning of the Pledge of Allegiance and I hope he, the Nazareth school boy, who refuses to stand during the pledge never has to be in a fire fight in a stinking jungle or sit in a frozen fox hole with snow blowing and worrying if he will get back home alive in one piece or be on the deck of a pitching ship while planes are strafing the deck around him killing his shipmates.

Some of us have endured these things and this is why we stand when we say the pledge, place our hand over our heart when our flag passes by, and get a tear in our eye because we remember those who didn’t come back to this great country of ours.

It’s your country Sam, right or wrong, love it or leave it. Maybe someone should sit Sam down and tell him of those things that were done so he can have what he has, his freedoms and the rights to protest things he disagrees with. I would be glad to do it.  But I may have to get his attention first. In the meantime I suggest that Sam continues to use his sitting time during the pledge to study hard, to achieve A+ grades and become a productive model student of Nazareth Area High School, so that he will become an outstanding citizen and candidate for the military branch of his choice.
